We need to mourn over our sins and he will comfort us. We need to exercise self-control (meekness), and be eager to show a right standing with God in our lives.

Matthew 5:1-3 Blessed are the poor in Spirit

Only those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit will flourish in the millenial kingdom. We need to recognize our lack of His control

Matthew 4:17-25 Jesus calls 4 fishermen as first disciples

Jesus calls Peter, Andrew, James and John to leave fishing for fish and now fish for men

Matthew 4:12-17 Jesus moves to Capernaum

Jesus relocates and launches his ministry in Capernaum. In doing so, he fulfills still another of many prophecies about his first coming to earth.

Matthew 4:5-11 Jesus' temptations 2 & 3 are defeated; Satan loses

Jesus defeats Satan in temptations of jumping off the temple or worshiping Satan. Jesus defeats Satan using scripture to answer all temptations.

Matthew 4:1-4 Jesus is tempted by Satan in the wilderness

The Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness where Satan makes his first of 3 temptations

Matthew 3:13-17 John baptizes Jesus

John the baptist baptizes Jesus, the Holy Spirit descends like a dove, and God gives approval from heaven

Matthew 3:10-13 John tells of the messiah who will separate the lost and saved.

John the Baptist warns that the coming Messiah will separate the lost from the saved.

Matthew 3:5-9 John warns the Jewish leaders to repent

John warns the Jewish leaders to repent, turning to God and showing true godliness rather than depend on their Jewish ancestry and religious rites.

Matthew 3:1-4 John preaches in the wilderness

John the Baptist fulfills the prophecy of the angel to Zachariah and the example of Elijah the prophet. He wears camel hair, eats locusts and honey, and preaches in the wilderness of Judea.
